New Moon in Aquarius - Give Me Something New

This month's new moon takes place at 20° Aquarius on 9-10 February, depending on your location.

New moons occur when the sun and moon are conjunct, providing a double burst of energy in one sign. Aquarius encourages us to look to the future and new moons are always forward looking, times when we plant seeds to germinate over the next 28 days. 🌱

Under this moon we are invited to get really clear on what we want our future to look like. Air signs like Aquarius are excellent at seeing from a bird's eye view — not necessarily mapping out each step but formulating an overall vision, a new ecosystem for one's own life and the communities we live in.

The winds of change are blowing 🌬 and if you're not where you want to be, what is missing from your big picture? What needs to change to enable you to realise the future you desire?

There is also an element of unpredictability in this new moon as it occurs in a close square to Uranus in Taurus. Uranus's time in the sign of the bull has been fraught, as Taurus is the most steadfast, slow-moving Earth sign and Uranus operates with Tower-esque lightning bolts and flashes of illumination. The more I think about the lessons of Uranus in Taurus, the more I think we're being taught that we need a new way to relate to the planet we call home — we can't continue digging up all its resources and industrially farming, or continue propping up an economic system that concentrates the majority of wealth in the hands of the very few. Systems which once might have been useful and abundant are fraying and a radical shift in action is required– but this is difficult because Taurus doesn't like to make changes quickly.

Maybe the crux of this new moon, then, is that we are free to dream big yet these dreams are embedded in an architecture that may not support the changes we seek. Maybe, for instance, you want to quit your job to pursue a passion but you depend on it to pay rent. Is there a way to make it work, in a way that is not exploitative and benefits those around us, which is the ultimate Aquarian goal? Uranus can provide sudden flashes of insight — will it shed light on a new solution? 🧨
