Libra Season Mantras
Hi folks! 👋 We’ve made it through our final eclipse of the year and are now deep in the midst of Libra season, where we are invited to reflect on the theme of balance.
I’ve had a bit of radio silence on the socials for the past couple weeks because, as any Aussie parent knows, we have just finished school holidays.
Not long ago, school holidays were a constant balancing act. My husband and I would juggle taking time off work to care for our daughter, and the days I did go in were always short-staffed because other parents in my team were doing the same thing. It was always trying to keep all the balls in the air, managing work and making memories with my child, weighing up the loss of income for my husband as a small business owner against me using my limited amount of annual leave. Sometimes it all came together seamlessly but other times – when someone got sick or was coincidentally slammed with a huge work project – I ended up feeling like a thread pulled too taut.
Trying to do it all is one of the shadows of Libra. Libra is a sign that wants to accommodate everyone. It will run itself ragged trying to do everything, to the point where its effots seem half-hearted because there are simply not enough hours in the day.
Think about the word ‘half-hearted,’ as opposed to ‘wholehearted.’ One feels lacklustre and brittle, where the other is warm and resonant. It’s hard to give your best with only half a heart.
Now that I am self-employed, school holidays are completely different. I give myself permission to close up shop and be fully present with my child. Yes, I respond to e-mails and manage bookings but I don’t schedule consultations or worry about the never ending spectre of ‘content creation.’
And what I have found is that when school goes back, I have a renewed zeal for my business. I turn on my laptop with excitement because I don’t already feel depleted.
I know this is a privilege that not every parent has and I am incredibly grateful to be in this position. Yet, this isn't really about school holidays.
Paradoxically, choosing to focus on one thing at a time - and doing that thing really well - creates more energy to devote to something else.
This is a golden thread of Libra, a Venus ruled sign which prides itself on fine craftsmanship and discernment. When you prioritise one thing over another – and let the scales temporarily tip to one side – you can then, when the time is right, fill the other side with an even greater quantity of a different priority, and it will still balance out.
