New Moon in Virgo — 2 or 3 September 2024

This month's new moon in the mutable Earth sign of Virgo. ♍️🌾

New moons are generally about new beginnings, but to me the theme of this new moon is 'tying up loose ends,' as it coincides with four planets in retrograde (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the latter of which just crossed back into Capricorn for the final time in our lifetimes). This is a great reminder that it is always wise to look at each lunation (i.e. lunar cycle) in the context of the broader astrology.

Here are some ways that the ‘loose ends’ may show up in our lives:

  • With Pluto back in Capricorn for its final pass in the sign for ~230 years, we might be asked to revisit any areas where we are still giving our power away to an external authority or relying on ‘the system’ to protect us.

  • Saturn in Pisces is in opposition to the new moon. The Virgo energy makes us want to roll up our sleeves and get shit done, but Saturn asks us - is this what I really need for my evolution or is it just an addiction to busyness

  • Jupiter (in Gemini) and Saturn are still in a square alignment. Our minds are moving a million miles a second. but are we clear on what we actually need to do to make our dreams a reality?

Ultimately, the new moon invites us to really sit and reflect before jumping into a course of action. Are the actions really aligned with our authentic selves or are they simply a knee-jerk response because we either fear being seen as idle or because we are operating from outdated conditioning?

One of Virgo's gifts is its ability to clarify, and here I think we get a great opportunity to become crystal clear on where we're heading — which is potentially going to mean we also become clear on exactly what we need to leave behind. To put it metaphorically, if we are going to reorganise our closets, the first thing we need to do is identify and clear out all the stuff we don't need. 🧹📦

Some suggestions on how to work most effectively with this energy include:

  • Spend some time in nature (Virgo is an Earth sign) to help discern what you really want to achieve during this period.

  • Meditate on whether there is any outdated programming from an older version of yourself still holding you back. This could be the perfect time to let it go - as a mutable sign (one coming at the end of a season), Virgo is comfortable with change.

  • Do the next right thing. What’s one small, tangible action you can take towards your goal? Do it, and then do another tomorrow. Celebrate your effort, no matter how insignificant it may feel. Virgo rewards small victories and persistence!
