Full Moon Eclipse in Taurus - Accumulation and Release

On Friday 19 November we will experience a lunar eclipse on the Scorpio / Taurus axis. This eclipse will introduce themes we will be exploring collectively over the next 18 months as the north and south nodes of the moon will transition into this pair of signs in January 2022.

The South Node represents where we are coming from, our comfort zone and areas of mastery, whilst the North Node is where we are being asked to go, which can be unfamiliar and confronting. Currently, the South Node has been transiting through Sagittarius and the North Node through Gemini, encouraging us to interrogate how we define 'truth' and to cultivate a beginner's mind where we acknowledge we don't have all the answers. These pair of signs deal with communication and beliefs, which have been front and centre of our public consciousness as political and social divisions continue to polarise our society.

Scorpio and Taurus invite us to shift our focus in a different direction and move from the realm of ideas to the tangible plane of our physical environment. Taurus wants to accumulate, to cultivate the soil and to nourish the body. Scorpio, on the other hand, desires to eliminate — to purge anything that is no longer serving from our lives.

This eclipse is likely to illuminate areas in our lives where we have been holding on tightly and question whether it is finally time to let them go. It may have a hard edge as the moon will be conjunct the fixed star Algol, which has a fearsome reputation, associated with violence and destruction. Algol is linked to the mythology of Medusa, who was cursed by Athena to possess a head of snakes, so terrifying that it would turn anyone who beheld her into stone. What rises from the depths in this eclipse is unlikely to be pretty and we might be tempted to shove it back under the rug. But with the Moon in a supportive trine to Pluto, lasting transformation is possible if we are willing to face our demons. After all, Medusa was herself a victim, raped by Neptune and then cursed by his jealous lover. Maybe that which terrifies us is something worthy of love?
